Known as “The First Lady of Boxing,” Jackie Kallen is the most accomplished and celebrated female in the male-dominated sport of boxing. Meg Ryan portrayed her in the Paramount film “Against the Ropes” and she was a regular on NBC’s “The Contender” with Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard. Her book “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” was released in both hardcover and paperback form and her new memoir “Between the Ropes” will be out in early 2013.
The former journalist, TV interviewer, and radio host has run and operated her own boxing gym in the Detroit area and has guided the careesr of over a half dozen world champions. She has a keen eye for talent and is always looking for her next champion.
A successful motivational speaker, Kallen travels the country giving speeches on female empowerment, facing life’s challenges, and how to be the champion of your own life. She does private life-coaching and devotes a lot of time to charitable causes like domestic violence and homelessness. She is also an advocate for kids-at-risk and heart health.
About to open another boxing gym in the Detroit Metro area, Kallen is hoping to provide a safe haven for young people looking to get off the streets. She continues to manage and guide the careers of young fighters and believes that anyone can rise to the top when given the opportunity.
